Prevent your jewellery from tarnishing

Have you ever received gold jewellery that does not look new and shiny as before just after a short period of time? Gold is one of the least reactive chemical elements. Gold alone or pure gold does not combine easily with oxygen so it stays shiny, it does not rust nor tarnish, again, that is pure gold. Tarnish is a layer of corrosion that forms on many metals, particularly sterling silver, as they undergo a chemical reaction with other compounds, especially oxygen and sulfur dioxide, usually caused by the way of usage and storage. How to prevent jewellery from tarnishing

1. Cleaning and Polishing

  • Clean and polish and remove all body oils from your jewellery with a soft cloth when undressing to keep it
  • wash it in soapy warm water and dry it thoroughly.

2. Storage

  • Jewelry tarnishes ratio is mcuh  faster if it’s left out in the open air ,exposed to oxygen. To avoid this, you may store it in closed container or soft pouch.
  • Avoid direct expose to sunlight or it may fade in colour. Try to keep your jewellery in a protective box or wrap it in a soft cloth.

3. Avoid Expose to chemicals

  • Do not bring your jewellery in contact with sea salt, chemicals, vinegar and chlorine, alcohol, fruit acid, ,e.g. swimming pools or hot tubs.

  • When cleaning, exercising, gardening or showering, also take your jewellery off to avoid damage to the metal.

4. Gemstones

  • Do not bring Coloured gemstones in direct sunlight or the colour of the stone will become dull.
  • Gemstones in contact with bleach, chlorine, hand cream or other harsh chemicals will erode the finish and the polish off the stone.
